Scarlet Letter Advent Calendar - Day 20

Day 20 - Polly Miner

Here is Lelia's finished Polly Miner - so pretty. I have a chart to giveaway.

In my mind the name Polly is forever associated with Parrots. How many SL samplers  can you think of that feature Parrots?

Marsha may have to help us out on this one.

If you would like to win today's giveaway please leave a comment below. The draw for each day will take place on Boxing Day, you may enter each day.

I have seen quite a few samplers with parrots. Along with leopards and lions...once a giraffe. It seems little girls liked exotic animals. I wonder if anyone has seen one with an elephant?

My favorite is the huge bright green parrot at the top of "Elizabeth Sheffield".

Nice alphabets and simple.

At a quick guess I can think of 3 samplers that have parrots on them. - Elizabeth Sheffield, Elizabeth Lamb and one that I have that is now OOP called Maria Foster, but I'm quite sure that there are many more out there.

Love this little sampler as well. Of course, PLL has a parrot (which I still have not finished...stitching on hold as I bake and wrap and bake and wrap and do some last minute knitting) and I know there are a bunch more...just can't think of them all now.

The Scottish sampler, Susan McPherson, features a large elephant at the center. Very quirky!

Comment for Barbara G - Lots of nice parrots around – they always make a piece interesting to look at.

I don't know how many SL samplers have parrots. I do know this one is on my wish list as it's home place is Middlebury VT where my mother's family is from and where my sister and I were born.

Thanks Marsha, I can`t believe I never noticed this sampler with an elephant!! I know there is a Scottish clan Oliphant, and elephant is supposed to be a derivative of that name, but I can`t quite figure out why...did a Scotsman named Oliphant record the first European sighting of an elephant and named it after himself? I wonder!!

Love samplers with birds in them. One thing for sure parrots are usually very colorful to stitch!

Three immediately come to mind, but I'm sure there must be more!
