Hi, my favorite book is my original 1923 copy of American Samplers by Colonial Dames of America. I found it for $10 years ago.

I am always dipping into The Proper Stitch for instruction, but my favorite have to be my sampler books from Needleprint (no affiliation) including the Feller Collection I and II...so much inspiration, and the pictures are just gorgeous!!

Being new to the world of embroidery I haven't yet acquired a book of stitches. But I guess I better start looking for one. Perhaps Santa will bring one !!

The Proper Stitch is one I also use frequently. And I love the Goodhart Sampler book for the photos.

My favourite is definitely the Goodhart samplers. Keep meaning to pick my favourites from it and attempt to chart them to make my own original sampler. Maybe one day.

Comment for Barbara G - I have lots of favorite books but the one I absolutely cannot live without is Any Mitten’s Autopsy of the Montenegrin Stitch.

I would love to add this book to my collection. I love old embroidery books and have a few I refer to time and again

I need to *start* a book collection of my own. I usually just borrow books from the library. They're always fascinating!

I agree with Nicola on this one. I couldn't live without Amy Mittens Autopsy. But I also use
The Proper Stitch.

Eileen Bennett's books are great - excellent diagrams. Love the Goodhart Sampler book by Needleprint.

The Proper Stitch is my go to book as well.

I too have to start my own collection, I usually have checked them out from the library. There are two that I really love though...American Samplers and Carol Humphrey's Quaker School Girl Samplers from Ackworth. This book looks likes it would be just lovely to read again and again and again....

Please don't enter me in this contest, but I wanted to say that exhibition catalogs are my favorite type of needlework book. Especially those that include a number of close up photos.

Eileen Bennett's books and The Proper Stitch are good reference books that I like, also Father Bob's book.

For embroidery it is The Proper Stitch and for quilting it is Linda Seward Quilters Bible.

The Proper Stitch is my all time favorite go to book!

Have you used The Red Book of Sampler Stitches by Eileen Bennett? Nice diagrams + a good size to tuck into your project [on-the-go] bag.

The proper stitch is a GREAT book, in addition, I like to use Mary Thomas's Dictionary of Embroidery Stitches at home.

After holidays, I may need to purchase Any Mitten’s Autopsy of the Montenegrin Stitch.
