A Giveaway

Grazing Sheep

Here is Grazing Sheep framed, unfortunately I had to leave her at the framers as he had managed to trap a piece of white cotton (I think from the stretching) between the sampler and the glass and this will need to be removed.

Sheep make such nice motifs on samplers and when you stop and think so many samplers feature animals or birds.

Marsha has written a book about this subject "Animals From Early Samplers"

Do you have a favourite animal that you like to stitch or a favourite sampler featuring animals.

Leave a comment on this post to enter the draw for a copy of the book. I will draw a name in a fortnight.

Lovely framing on a gorgeous sampler! I tend to have stitched a lot of birds :) I have the book already, it is wonderful.
Hugs!

The frame is perfect! Your sampler is stunning.
I find a lot of the animals in samplers very unusual either or both in colors chosen and there shapes. However I tend to be drawn to cows( for some reson the sampler pretty cow makes me smile every time I look at it) and the wooly sheep.

Nicola, your 'Grazing sheep' is gorgeous!
Like many others, I love big colorful birds on samplers. From farm animals (on samplers) my favorites are cows. But if I had a piece of grassland I would love to have a sheep or two:)
Would love to have this wonderful book.

Peacocks fascinate me and I see quite a few on samplers. Your finished grazing sheep is lovely framed.

Lovely finish, Nicola. I'm finding myself being drawn toward samplers with spotted dogs...hmmm, wouldn't know why that is. LOL!

Grazing Sheep looks beautiful! I hope you are happy with it after the cotton disappears. I don't think I have a favorite animal to stitch. They're just fun to stitch in general.

Lovely 'sheep' finish! I enjoy doing all animals especially birds! Right now stitching the Susan Rambo......that duck just kept quacking at me!

Don't you just hate it when that happens. I have a couple of hangers in one of my samplers, but they didn't show once the were hanging on the wall.

Sheep are my favorite to stitch. The reason why is because you can stitch them so many different ways and with so many different threads. They are very forgiving. But I think I enjoyed stitching the swan on my Janet Gibson Auchterarder 1819. It was done with all button hole in all different directions. Very unusual....

Hi Nicola, I'm still loving your black sheep. The frame looks grand. Sorry about the cotton piece. I tend to be drawn to birds -- love them all from parrots (obviously) to peacocks to little tiny songbirds. would love to win the book!

Your Grazing Sheep sampler is just beautiful Nicola. I love the frame that you chose and it will look lovely hanging in your home(when it arrives :) ). I love to stitch animals they all make me smile, but I especially love stitching birds. One of my favorite samplers is Dutch Beauty. I find myself drawn to the Pelican and her babies all the time. Happy Stitching my friend.

Another beautiful finish Nicola.
I can't just pick one animal... I enjoy stitching them all.

It's really hard to choose a favourite animal, but I am drawn to birds like so many others and then perhaps sheep - like so many others!!! Irene xxx

It was actually the animals the drew me to stitch And all was for an Appil.
Other than that... I love to stitch sheep and birds. Sheep cause they are so easy to change with threads or stitches and birds because they can be so very colourful.

At the risk of being a copycat, I, too, like sheep and birds, especially lots of small birds.

Spotted dogs and squirrels are my favorite. But in real life dogs are my favorite.
Your sampler is lovely. I would have made one of the sheep black also. :)

I designed and stitched a sampler quoting "All things bright and beautiful....." It has squirrels and butterflies. So much fun. But I really love stitching sheep and dogs.

I recently finished a sampler from
The Antique Sampler magazine, which contained a Bavarian Cow. I think that I like the ones with cows because it reminds me so much of my grandoarent's dairy farm in Michigan, and all the time spent there growing up.

I love sheep and peacocks. Use to be cows but, yep sheep win hands down!

Grazing sheep is beautiful Nicola.

As I am only on my second sampler I have only ever stitched two birds so I haven't got a favourite yet. Looking forward to doing the cat in Mary Hart though.

Love the Grazing Sheep. I used to have a cow collection but decided to let someone else enjoy them. Instead I have plans to stitch a sampler or two with them. I'm always excited to see horses in samplers too.

Well, you know without asking me what animal I like to stitch and that is sheep. There is just something about them that I love. Would love to win this book. I have Marsha's book on Architecture in Samplers but not this one. = Sandra.
